The Hospital Institute Ospedali Galliera (founded as Opera Pia De Ferrari Brignole Sale) owes its origins to the generosity of the duchess of Galleria, who built it between 1877 and 1888. Over the decades (in 1988 the centary of the institute was celebrated), the Institute has maintained a unique position between the public health bodies, conserving its own judicial character in the presence of reforms such as laws 132/68, 833/78 and, more recently, D.L. 502/92 and successive modifications and integrations. The Institute guarantees, to all persons assisted by the National Health Service, access to hospital admissions necessary to treat unavoidable pathological conditions which require emergency or urgent diagnostic-therapeutic interventions.
